What's all the ruckus about?

So over the weekend I read this article. It's titled 5 Things Parents Need To Stop Saying To Non-Parent.s I thought it was a cute article which was well written and not in the least bit offensive.

In an attempt to create the least amount of drama possible please just take a look at the article. I stand by how I feel about it. I liked it and I shared it. Gone are the days where when someone doesn't like something they just move along.

That's something my Mother and Grandmother taught me as well- if something or someone says something that bothers you just ignore it. People will hold different views from you on occasion- and that okay too.

Anyway- check it out. I'm laying on the couch again today I called out of work and am going to wear my sweatpants and drink tea..

I may make a run out to mail my ornament for the ornament exchange and get some fresh air…

Also still no AF and I tested again since some of the meds they want me to take for Strep aren't good if you are pregnant… BFN..

Ive included the article text since the link isn't working..

First, I should say that I am 100 percent guilty of all of these. I know this reads as an advice list, but really it's advice I'm giving myself. The "you" I am addressing in this piece is me... unless it applies to you; then it is you.
I ran headfirst into this parenting thing, and have gladly and gratefully let it redefine me as a person. One unforeseen side-effect has been that I view everything through the lens of parenting. Sometimes that is a good thing. For instance, I don't leave steak knives lying around as much as I used to. Sometimes -- and this is what I've recently learned -- it can alienate my non-kid-having friends. Here are some things that are better left unsaid.
1. "Dogs are not kids."
It usually goes like this. "Ugh. You know what really bugs me? When so-and-so compares her dog to my kid. Or when so-and-so refers to his or her dog as his or her kid. Dogs are not kids! She has NO IDEA!"

You know what? Unless "so-and-so" needs professional help, I guarantee "so-and-so" knows that her dog is not a human child. She also knows that having a dog is nothing like having a kid. What she's really saying is "Oh! Yes. I also have something in my life that poops AND brings me joy."
She is trying to relate to you and be a part of your life -- the life where all you do is talk about your kids. I know that it's hard to relate when you have kids and your friends don't. What were once close relationships can become sporadic meet-ups where you do your best to try and catch up with someone with whom you have very little in common anymore. Sure, you two were best buds in college, but now you have very different lives. So, when "so-and-so" offhandedly, and perhaps awkwardly, tries to relate to your story about picking poo out of your bangs by comparing it to scraping dog shit out of the carpet, cut her some slack. She's just trying to be nice. And she misses you.
2. "You think you're [insert anything here]? Try having kids!"
Tired, stressed, in pain, covered in urine, it doesn't matter. They all apply. Too often, we parents downplay non-parents' concerns by pulling ours out and tossing them on the table. "Oh man! You worked 50 hours this week? Try doing that with kids!" "Oh man, you think your feet hurt from working outside all day! I've been chasing my toddler blah blah blahpunch me in the face, please."
It's not a competition. If, on a scale of 1 to Passing Out Awkwardly in the Shower and Waking Up When the Hot Water Runs Out, your friend is at a 7, and three weeks into your first newborn you were at a 9, that DOESN'T MAKE YOUR FRIEND ANY LESS TIRED.
It isn't that your experiences can't be a valid contribution to the conversation, but instead of a "my pain is more painful than your pain" approach, instead, try sympathizing. Why not try using your experience as a new parent to help instead of compete? Say something like, "Whoa! I bet you're tired. When I was tired after my daughter was born, I found that pouring coffee directly into my eyeballs was incredibly useful."
3. "Don't worry, when you have kids you'll..."
... not be grossed out by boogers, know who Dora the Explorer is, be happy... UGH. We've got to quit assuming that everyone is going to have kids. Some people don't want kids and choose not to have them. Some people really want kids and are trying incredibly hard to have them. Indicating to these people that having kids is the only way they will reach some higher level of understanding is both inconsiderate and rude. I don't know what the alternatives to these statements are. Maybe just cut anything that starts with "When you have kids..." out of your repertoire all together. It makes you sound like someone's mom, anyway.
4. "Is the party kid-friendly?"
Unless you and your friend have some previous communication on this topic about how your little one is always welcome, assume the party is not kid-friendly. Don't ask. If it were "kid-friendly" they would have invited you AND your kids, and mentioned the awesome playroom that they will have set up in the basement. By asking your non-kid-having friends if their party is kid friendly you are putting them in the really awkward position of either MAKING their party kid-friendly on the fly, or telling you that the party is NOT kid-friendly which, then, no matter how low-key the party was intended to be in the first place, pretty much requires that they now provide a steady supply of hookers and blow. Don't make your friends set up a kids' room, and definitely don't make them buy hookers and blow.
5. "My life didn't have meaning before I had kids!"
Another way to say this: My life was meaningless before I had kids. Another way: Life without kids is meaningless.
Look, I know this feeling. Sometimes it feels like all the worries I had before my kids were trivial. I understand the urge to convey that feeling into words. Don't do it. Your life may have a different purpose now, but your pre-kid life was an important part of your story, and your non-kid-having friends are a part of that. Don't dismiss that part of your life the way most people skip the foreword to a novel they really want to read. By dismissing the "before" as just a buildup to your kids, you are not only dismissing your friends, but you're also implying that their story has not started yet.
Lastly, if you have done or said any of these things, you don't need to apologize. Just stop saying them. Apologizing will make it worse. I apologized for one of these things, and it came out poorly. It basically sounded like "Oh, you poor, delicate, non-kid-having flower. I am sorry that I was so consumed in my awesome parenting that I was neglectful and dismissive of our friendship. Please forgive me."
There was no forgiveness needed. I hadn't harmed anyone, I'd just annoyed them. Forgiving me would have been like forgiving a fly for landing on you. So, I promise to try and be more aware of how I say things, a better friend and less of a fly. And by less of a fly, I mean that I will not land on you, vomit on you and then try to eat you. College is over. I don't do that stuff anymore.

BFN, Pinterest Party, Home Repairs.. and Wine Time

Good morning loves. I couldn't come up with a creative title to tie this all together…

I did it. I tested this morning for two reasons-

1) I think a lot of this missed period mumbo jumbo ordeal is mental. Mentally I am blocking AF. So maybe if I see the stark white, while it will suck royally, it will help with the mental blockade so to speak.

2) Tonight is a girls get together. Its called a Pinterest Party, where everyone chooses a recipe or craft from Pinterest and recreates it for the group. There will be wine and drink and if I want to responsibly take part in the vino I need to know for sure that I am not pregnant.

The results?

Bring on the vino.

Stark white negative. I was going to share a picture, but its depressing and I know how much BFN's suck for me to view so why keep viewing it.

I really already knew this, but I also had some hope that maybe I would be that girl. The one waiting for her IVF cycle that miraculously ended up pregnant. Alas that girl is not me. At least not this time. At least I can have a glass of wine tonight and prepare to move forward mentally…and hopefully physically as well. Thank you all for your hope and prayers- you ladies are so wonderful at being the optimist when the pessimist in me takes over.

So about this Pinterest Party- tonight I am making this:

(source)

If you follow the source it will lead you to the recipe. Once I make it I will share a picture of the actual results with all of you as well:) Wanna take part in a virtual Pinterest Party? Share a picture of a recipe or craft or really anything you have tried to make as a result of finding on Pinterest or the Interweb. Share a photo of the end results with all of us and let us know how you made out! No harm in failures either. Don't believe me? Then you have never been to this site- Craft Fail. Need a laugh? Having a rough day, week, or month? I will guarantee something on  craft fail will bring you a laugh and some joy :)

I also wanted to share the photos of our home repairs -

This is the "nursery to be" this wall you are looking at boarders the bathroom and was completely destroyed by the leaks as well as the ceiling. Its painted green so that its ready for our bundle or joy(s) no matter their gender :)

I've made the "nursery to be" my Santa workshop. I want Santa to bring me a baby to fill this nursery so I figure while I listen to my Christmas music and wrap I will pray for this room to always be filled with love and joy. I avoid this room a lot, but not this holiday.

This is our bathroom that was completely destroyed. The titling and walls and ceiling are all new. Its so pretty now.

The wall tiling behind the shower is completely new. It is not only beautiful, but its functional since the shower is a very wet place to begin with the tiling will help the moisture from penetrating the walls again.

Last night Rob hung all of our art back up. It looks perfect now.

Today I am going to lunch with a girl friend and then cooking for the Pinterest Party. It will be a great distraction and hopefully AF will appear now that I removed the mental blockade.

IUI #6 Is A Bust

Well I won't have to wait until Monday after all.

Last night at the wedding I got very crampy. At first I thought I had a stomach ache or ate something bad so I rushed off to the bathroom. I started my period.

A 23 day cycle. IUI 6 is officially over. If I can find any solace at all its that I didn't have to wait the entire weekend to find out the results which alleviates the anxiety attack that was pending.

I also left the bathroom and marched right to the bar and had a glass of wine. Rob and I talked about what we want to do next. Definitely taking two months off. I am going away in November for a girls weekend and I don't want to be fretting over timing and cycling  Then comes December and Christmas and I don't need to be stressing out during my favorite season.

We decided that we will go to our consultation appointment with opens eyes and ears and see what they want to do next. I'm pretty sure they are going to recommend IVF and Rob thinks we should do it.

I am not sure what I am feeling right now. Relief that I don't have to wait till Monday and get a call while I am at work and told that this cycle is a bust. Sad that my body can't pull it together. Happy that I have my husband by my side to lift me up. Even happier that my friend Kristien text me and lifted me up in prayer just as I got my period last night.

The wedding was nice. I sounded so awful yesterday saying I couldn't see myself being happy for my friends during their wedding day. Even before my period started I was happy to be there with them. Weddings are a great time to listen to the sermon and reaffirm your vows to one another. Weddings are a beautiful union and my friends through a wonderful party. We laughed and had a great time and I am so grateful to be there to celebrate with them.
Rob wouldn't smile...

I'm off to make a grocery list. Im putting all the focus I have been using on cycling towards eating better and healing both mentally and physically. I have to wait till after my period and then get another ultra sound to be sure my ovaries have decreased in swelling so that I can start running, but today I plan on enjoying the day we were blessed with. Its like a May day here and I want to enjoy every second of it.

Im Sad and This Blows..

I spoke with my nurse first thing this morning... I was told to stop my Endometrin and await the arrival of my period and call them on cycle day 1.

They don't even want me coming in for a beta.

AKA this cycle is now officially over...

Two things pop into my mind-

1)I am sad.

2) This blows.

But you know what. Both those things are okay. Its okay for me to be sad that this cycle didn't work. That's an honest feeling and my heart is heavy in my chest and my cheeks are moist with tears of letting this cycle sail away officially.

And that is okay, because this does blow.

I really wish I had a more articulate term to define how I felt but at this moment in time all I can think is.. this blows.

I told Rob what the nurse said and he said alright its going to be okay lets just stay positive.

A friend of mine said to me that she thinks Im much stronger than her. I told her I didn't feel strong at all lately. I feel like a new born baby deer with brand new wobbly legs and limited eye sight. She laughed and said that it was okay for me not to feel strong right in this moment. Its okay to be sad. Its okay to cry and crumble and when Im ready to just pick myself back up and keep moving forward.

So the other day you may remember that I prayed for a sign about what to do about my next cycle...

Well after the call this morning Rob and I decided to go get some breakfast at a local diner. We were sitting talking about what we thought the next cycle was going to be like and how we were going to be able to move forward with conflicting schedules and what not.

It was beautiful out as we waited to be seated the sun shined down and there was a sight fall breeze in the air. A little girl- who couldn't have been much more than a year old- was wobbling around. Showing off her new walking skills. I didn't know this little girl.. or her parents... but she walked right up to me. She placed her head on my bare legs and looked at me and smiled.

I was so taken back. It was so random. There were 20 people easily waiting outside and this little one chose me to come cuddle with. Me some stranger to look at and smile.

Maybe it wasn't some sign from God... though Im inclined to think it really was.

Her smile pulled on something deep within my heart. I want nothing more than for my child to give me that beautiful, innocent, loving smile. Im so grateful this little girls dad let her wobble up to me. Let her sit with me... even just for a fleeting moment.

When he picked her up and walked away I wanted to burst into tears. I was so full of emotions.

I held it in and just thought about what I was feeling. I thought well God I asked for a sign and if the innocence of a smiling child who comes to cuddle with a stranger isn't a sign.. well I don't know what is.

So tonight its wine and pizza with one of my best friends... I will cry and be sad and vent my frustrations and enjoy the vino...

And then tomorrow I will pull my cloak of strength back on and we will continue to move forward with the next cycle...

To Break or Not to Break

I did it.

I tested today despite knowing it still may be a touch early.

Despite knowing I could upset myself for nothing.

But there was also that chance. That looming chance of seeing a positive.

12 DPO- BFN.

From Count Down To Pregnancy :  "Based on these statistics, if you are pregnant and take a pregnancy test on 12 days past ovulation you are most likely to get a Positive test result, with the most common being a Faint Positive.

The instances of false negatives on 12 days past ovulation are less common, but do still occur. 16.5% of test results were False Negatives. A false negative result is when a pregnancy test indicates that you are not pregnant but you actually are.

So basically there is a chance- albeit slim- but a chance none the less that its a false negative and my BFP is still out there. I can't help but let some of the positivity I was holding onto about this cycle slip threw my fingers though, which makes me sad.

It also causes me to think about the future..

It forces me contemplate my next steps- my original plan was to take September, October, and November off from treatments. There is a run in Richmond that I want to do with my friends and I was going to take these months to train. I can't train on the medications because they don't want me running or exercising for fear of an ovarian torsion. The real issue is that I can't guarantee our amazing insurance into 2014. I have no idea what 2014 is going to bring us, and if we end up moving I have no idea what kind of insurance we will fall into.We may be forced into a break at that point and so I don't want to waste the amazing insurance that we currently have, which covers so much of our treatments. I also don't know if I am ready for a break just yet. Mentally I know its not giving up, but I also know each passing month we are getting older and older. I also have it in my mind that "what if its meant to be over those months..."

I know Rob isn't ready for a break either and when I dig deep I know either am I. My nurse told me that we are going to give Menopur 3 tries. It would look like try number one is slipping away and so I think we are going to move forward with Menopur take 2 without taking a break.

I don't know honestly. I guess I still have some more time to make a decision. My period will probably be held off by the Endometrin, which means I will probably still have a Beta on Monday and then can discuss what to do from there.

I'm really not ready to make a choice.

I guess I just need to keep this in mind~

I'm praying for an answer for what to do. I ask for some guidance into the next cycle. A sign for what path to take and some patience to handle whatever becomes of this cycle.

Like the picture says- maybe he is saying wait.

And so I'm going to wait until the answer of what to do is clear.

How did you know when it was time to take a break?

A Negative Beta and An Apology

Not as any surprise whatsoever my beta is officially negative.

I will have an appointment at my doctors on Friday with the APN that I really like and we will go from there. Since I really didn't have my hopes up to high to begin with the let down is a little easier this go around.

Still sucks. My heart still hurts and to hear the nurse say that is official still feels like a kick in the stomach.

Telling Rob that I'm not pregnant will never get easier. Each time it hurts a little more. Each time I feel like I am letting him down. Like I'm failing my womanly duties and not holding up my end of the bargain.

He doesn't make me feel that way of course. He's nothing but supportive and holds me up when I feel like I can't stand on my own.

Today I was fine. Until I wasn't.

Today I need Rob to just hold me up for a little bit.

Today I need to cry.

You see when I first started to write here it really was just to vent out all my emotions and feelings and get some feed back from anyone who found themselves in a similar journey. To have some support and guidance.. and maybe along the way make a few friends.

I never thought in my wildest dreams that people would actually read what I wrote. I never thought what I wrote could hurt someones feelings if they stumbled upon it.

I haven't thought twice about just unleashing my feelings and emotions when I feel them. Today I realize that people are reading. I can hurt people with my feelings and some things are better off left unsaid, left unwritten and left un-thought.

I never in my life want to feel like I feel right now. I never want to use my words and feelings to hurt someone else.

I have never intended to do that. Never set out to do that. And promise from this moment forward to think about all that I may affect before I write and spew forth my emotions.

So here is my public apology if I have hurt you or said something that may have been taken the wrong way.

Please come to me. Please let me know so I can set it straight. Please understand I'm just coming from a place of vulnerability. A place of fear.

Please know that I never meant anything by any of my words other than venting whats in my head and heart to a blank sheet of paper to help me sort through the emotions and feelings that are bubbling over.

I could not be happier for my pregnant friends. Truly and honestly. I love bellies and babies- that is why I want my own so very badly. So badly it hurts. I want nothing more than your babies to be happy and healthy and beautiful. I can not wait to hold them all in my arms and inhale that baby smell.

I hope that if the Lord doesn't bless us with children of our very own that I can baby sit yours and hold them close to my heart as nieces and nephews. To be able to share the love I have pent up with your babies as if they really were related to me.

My sadness and jealousy that I can not be pregnant with you overwhelms me. That is the gods honest truth, but it doesn't take away how happy I am for you all.

So if I have come across as angry or bitter- please know that is not my intent. I will attempt to do a better job of not being sad and bitter, but its just the emotions that come along with the struggle. They are never directed at you and if you have felt that way I truly hope you understand I never intended for that. Ever.

So here is my public apology. My heart is overwhelmed with so many emotions- but most of all I am sorry if I hurt you with my words.. I hope to never do so again.

I think we're out- but its gonna be okay.

Well we made it threw another 2 week wait- today marks 14 days post IUI and I think its safe to say we are out.

I'm on Progesterone so my period probably won't come until I stop the Endometrin. I will have a beta tomorrow to be absolutely positive- but in my heart I already am positive we are out.

I could write an incredibly depressing post about how frustrated I am- but instead I want to focus on some happy news. I can't continue to dwell on my failed cycles and fall down into a depression spiral - well I could since it still stings that IUI #2 that I felt so good about failed but- it won't do anyone any good and no one who is here reading this needs any more depressing posts then they are already getting.

Instead I want to shout some happiness from the rooftops. My friends over at "Who Shot My Stork" got a positive pregnancy test! If you follow them or read my blog a week or so ago you will remember that they just had an IVF cycle- the last cycle granted to them by their insurance company and that was after a battle with the insurance company to even grant them that.

And so as Risa and I were about on the same cycle day I directed my prayers towards her cycle. We still have insurance to cover us. We still have options and ways to turn. In my heart I know they needed this positive. Risa had 10 eggs retrieved and only 1 embryo survived and was transferred. I truly am over the moon for them that this 1 embryo stuck around.

They deserve this and I refuse to feel sad or cranky or bitter because they go their positive. Instead I want to suck up the positivity of their cycle and use it to propel me forward into what is next for us.

Maybe God heard my prayers for them and knew that this was their turn and maybe our turn is coming up soon. I wished that our prayers would be answered simultaneously- but since they weren't I could not be happier for Risa and Chris.

I will continue to say a prayer for you both as you continue on this journey. I can't express how happy I truly am for you both.

I have no idea what is in store for us next. Probably a break cycle- Im pretty sure I have another cyst as I am in a lot of pain again. I think I'm going to try acupuncture this cycle. There is a very well recommended place nearby and I have heard a lot of good things.

Have you ever had acupuncture? What did you think? What should I ask or so or expect?

We're going to be just fine. Its going to be okay.
I also think I am going to try to go gluten free for a while and see how I feel. I have some gastro intestinal issues and I have often wondered if I have some underlying food allergies of some kind. After reading some success stories of women going gluten free and getting their BFP's I can't help but want to try. I also think it will help me refocus and gain some control over my diet.

Have you gone gluten free? Did it help? Any recommendations on foods and alternatives?

Well thats where I stand today- a beta tomorrow and a meeting with my RE for a new plan... I check in soon with the official beta and what Dr S has to say. I have a few things to discuss with them, but if my journey sounds like yours and you have anything you think I should bring up please feel free to share.

I hope your Monday's are a bit brighter than mine here.

I'm not pregnant.. what else is new..

What else is there to really say about that?

Honestly I am bummed. Worse than bummed I feel defeated and broken and all those other immensely un- happy and un-helpful infertile person thoughts that can creep in on the really bad days.

I was truly looking for good news. I truly felt like this was the cycle. I felt so good about it… so positive.

At one point I would have sworn to you -I had this feeling and I knew there was not only going to be a baby this cycle- but more than one!

We had at least two good eggs. Good lining. Confirmed release of the eggs. We had great sperm counts.

And yet. Here I am still barren as the day is long.

I guess if I’m looking for good news its that for the first time in ages I had a 14 day luteal phase. –yay! Lol

I will call my RE at some point today to discuss the next treatment plan. They already said they want to try another round with 150 mg Clomid- plus the dexamethasone. My RE does 3 rounds of Clomid and then considers it a failure after the 3rd cycle. Maybe 3rd times the charm..

I want to discuses in greater detail the lack of Progesterone. Normal for a women ovulating is over 10. For a woman who is being treated by Clomid – or any medicated cycle for that matter- it should be at least over 15. I am still barely over 10. Its concerning and its the only thing that is still "off". Maybe its the key to the broken baby maker puzzle…

I would actually feel better about this entire ordeal if they could say to me- "Here! here is the problem and now we will attempt to solve it!"

But, nope. No one knows what the problem seems to be. So now we will pick ourselves up and move forward onto another cycle of Clomid. Which for the record - I am absolutely not excited about. Clomid. 150mg seemed to do wonders with my emotional well being- and by wonders I mean I turn into Crazy-Kasey. Half Kasey Half batshitbanana's lady with very little patience for very much of anything.

Not exactly the best emotional state for me to be in considering our current state.

Cheers to 22 cycles of tracking and trying and failing– and still hoping and praying that cycle 23 is the one.

Tonight I will do what most infertile women do when they also find out they aren’t pregnant – pop a cork on a bottle of wine and think about happier times and dreams of a future where I get to have a big baby belly and share good news with you all.

So have ya tested...

So have ya tested seems to be the question of the morning.

Why yes.
Yes indeedy do…
I have.

Negative as negative gets.
Start negative.
NOT PREGNANT.

Its still early- this I know… I KNOW... but as per usual I feel like my hopes are starting to be dashed.

Of course I’m incredibly tired and emotionally drained-- without seeing negative this morning..

I could really use some good news. At this point I will take any good news.
Starting with.. but not limited too..

"Rob got a job"
"PREGNANT"
_ _ <~~ Two pink lines (lol)
"You won the lottery"
"Your moving to the tropics!"
"You have the weekend off to lay on the beach- surprise!"

The list goes on and on you get the idea.

Maybe this weekend will reveal something good...

I suppose it goes without saying that right now I’m pretty down in the dumps... depressed and exhausting.

Next post Ill try to be more upbeat and positive..

No guarentees guys..
